GMSD District News

Outside contractor runs cabling at HMS for new security cameras.

GMSD moves forward with security camera upgrades this summer

Germantown, Tennessee--July 2, 2018--Germantown Municipal School District is working on security upgrades over the summer.   District staff has engaged the architecture firm, Allen and Hoshall, to complete design work for the addition of security fencing and a secured entrance at Houston High School.  Principally though, the district is also using this summer as an opportunity to complete its long range goals of security camera upgrades across all five schools.  On security walks with the Germantown Police Department, district officials had previously identified where cameras needed to be placed or replaced. This year’s STEM Stangs camp enjoyed an artistic overlay

Germantown, Tennessee--June 14, 2018--Houston Middle STEAMed into their annual summer STEM Stangs Camp.  STEAM, in case you were wondering, is a melding of science, technology, engineering, math AND art.  Each year, the staff at GMSD arranges an excellently themed summer camp open to all Germantown students.  Campers this year spent each morning learning and making artistic messes, tie dying shirts, exploring glowing slime, growing crystal gardens, and creating bubbling lava lamps that all sparked students’ curiosity.   More +

Message from Our Principal

Wow! We are embarking on my second year as principal. We are also approaching Dogwood’s 40th Anniversary. This has been the most challenging and invigorating experience of my educational career. I believe I work at Disney! Dogwood is the happiest place on earth for me, and I hope your children feel the same way about their school.  Continue

Staff Spotlight

Meet Ms. Chinhua Coffee

One of the many smiling faces at Dogwood you will see if you walk into the front office is Ms. Chinhua Coffee.  Ms. Coffee is Dogwood’s attendance clerk, and she keeps a busy pace.  This is her 19th year working at Dogwood; however, she has worked for 32 years in schools.  Born in India and raised in Nepal, she speaks four languages fluently: Hindi, Nepali, Chinese, and English. She loves the people she works with and the parents and students.  She recalls one time when she fell at school, and a student rushed to her assistance.  If you're walking down the hall, you might just hear, “Hey, Buddy!” and she's probably talking to you.  Thanks for all you do for Dogwood, Ms. Coffee.
