GMSD to vote on contract to purchase land on the Broer-Schaeffer Property

GMSD wins big at the Perennial Math Competition
Out of a total of 50 winning individuals/teams placing in the top three positions, GMSD schools garnered a little over half of them! 28 of our students and teams earned big prizes--which you can see for yourself here in the published list of winners.

HMS partners with a local organization to give back in Memphis
Michael Ruiz, Assistant Principal at Houston Middle School, started a partnership 3 years ago with a local organization that has affected hundreds of children in Memphis.  
Two GMSD schools chosen as STEM showcase locations for the state
Germantown Municipal Schools is proud to host the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN) for an open house at both Houston High School and Houston Middle School on March 23. Houston High and Middle are two of ten schools across the state that will be showcasing the effective ways they are integrating STEM into their learning. 
HMS student a finalist in NASA sponsored contest--wins the school a 3D printer
Saksham Saksena, a current 8th grader at Houston Middle School, was recently selected as one of four finalists for the MARS Medical challenge sponsored by NASA. 
TOY stands for Teacher of the Year
Each year, the Germantown Municipal School District selects three Teachers of the Year; Pre-4th, 5th-8th, and 9th-12th.  These three individuals then go on to compete for the Teacher of the Year in the Southwest region, the State, and so.  Read about the three teachers who have been selected as your GMSD TOYs for 2016-2017.

Bound for National PTA Reflections Contest
PTA Reflections is a program for students to submit art that fits within 6 categories. This year, GMSD had several students that will advance to the national level of this prestigious competition.  
Casting Call! My Teacher Has Superpowers
The Germantown Municipal School District Communications Department is partnering with Germantown Municipal Television (based out of the Houston High School’s studio) to produce a short film called My Teacher Has Superpowers. We are seeking 16-20 students grades K-12.
 
GMSD Parent Training Workshop
The focus of this parent workshop is “Tools for Changing Behavior.” Sessions will be based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strategies will be explained, modeled and role-played throughout the sessions that can be applied in the home, community, and school settings. 
HMS trap team takes home the state championship title
At the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) State Championship Trap Tournament, Houston High School's middle school division of the trap team won 1st place in the Intermediate Entry Level Squad division and claimed the State Championship title. “IE” means these kids are not in high school, and it's their first year to compete on a trap team.  
The City of Germantown partners with schools for MOVERS program to foster leadership in youth
The focus of the MOVERS program is to select 24 eighth grade students (eight from Houston Middle, eight from Germantown Middle and eight from Riverdale) and give them a leadership experience that will help them as they prepare for the high school experience. 
Purpose Statement:
In order for our students to grow academically and socially, it is the mission of Houston Middle School to engage students in meaningful learning experiences that build confidence. The role of the faculty and staff is to facilitate student learning, and together with their parents/guardians guide our students in becoming well-rounded contributors to society.
