Go West, young men and women!

Second Grade students at Dogwood Elementary recently studied the American West in class. They began by reading numerous stories and poems, such as, “The Buffalo are Back,” “Journey of a Pioneer,” and “Plains Indian.” They studied folk talks of Johnny Appleseed and John Henry and additionally completed a novel study on “Sarah, Plain and Tall.”

On Friday, April 7, the second graders experienced what life was like in the 1800-1900’s by having students and teachers wear Pioneer attire, play outdoor games, and invited parents to attend their square dancing in the gym. Students had a great western experience thanks to their second grade teachers and physical education teachers.
