Sylvan Paul takes 5th place at the State Geography Bee

On March 31st, 100 of the top geography bee contenders in the state of Tennessee descended on Nashville for the monumental 2017 State Geographic Bee. Sylvan Paul, 8th grader from Houston Middle School was among them.

Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography.

Sylvan came in fifth place overall in the entire state—which is a huge honor. Last year, Sylvan won the State History Bee and went on to the nationals (read about that journey here). Great work, Sylvan!
