Houston High Celebrates SADD SHINES Week

Houston High School’s SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) joined thousands of students across the country the first week of February, to celebrate SADD SHINES Week. SADD Shines week celebrates the power of teens to “light the way” to a healthier, safe community for high school students and the wider community. SADD was founded on the principle that young people have unique power to keep their friends safe and alive.
On February 1st which was National SADD SHINES Day, members hosted a school raffle. The student body was encouraged to wear blue so they could enter the raffle for a chance to win 4 tickets to a Memphis Grizzlies game. On Thursday, February 2, Ms. Julia Strike, TN SADD Coordinator, brought in The Drugged and Drowsy Teen Driving Simulator. The project simulates the effects of various substances on the driving experience and was developed under the guidance of a local Drug Recognition Expert to ensure an accurate depiction of the physiological effects of the selected substances on your body. Students were able to stop by during lunches to get try out the device. HHS SADD Club would like to thank everyone that participated in this week’s events.
