Good Afternoon GMSD Families,
We wanted to make you aware of a couple of changes in the device deployment that will start Monday. These changes should make it more convenient for families with multiple children.
The scheduled dates will remain the same (see below).
Instead of attending a presentation the night of deployment, all parents and students are required to watch an informational video and read the Blended Learning Procedure Manual prior to device collection. Both items can be found on the Blended Learning Page.
We are still asking that you arrive during your assigned window to pick up your device. If you have more than one child at the same school, you will be able to pick up the other student devices as well.
You will need to bring a Device Deployment Form that will show that you have paid the fee, registered in Skyward, and include information needed to deploy the device. It will also include a request for signature to confirm that you have viewed the video and reviewed the Blended Learning Procedure Manual. The form will be available for download on Family Access, but not until Monday at noon to allow families more time to meet the below criteria.
Before being allowed to pick up your device, the following steps must be completed:
Students must be registered in Skyward for the 2018-2019 school year
The maintenance fee must be paid in Myschoolbucks
You must have the Device Deployment Form printed from Skyward Family Access (available Monday by noon)

Does the parent and student both have to be there to pick up the device?
No, it’s perfectly fine for either the parent or the student to be present to pick up the device. Only the student or a parent/guardian may pick up a student’s device.
Can I get a sibling’s device the same night?
Yes! A family may pick up the devices for all of their children on the same night, as long as the student(s) attend(s) the same school.
If I have students at different schools, can I get them all on the same night?
No. Unfortunately, only laptops will be available at the high school and only iPads will be available at the middle schools.
What if I can’t make it to either the assigned date or the make-up date?
Our tech staff will be available in the school’s tech office throughout the first week of school for students to drop by and pick up their device. Students will need to have the signed Device Deployment Form.
What if I have a problem paying the fee online?
MySchoolBucks has a support line you may call for help. You may also contact Mason Grace (901-752-7888) for assistance. If all else fails, you may also bring a check or cash on your assigned device deployment date, and someone will be there to take your payment.
Please mark your calendars to attend your deployment event at your child's school. Device orientation and deployment should last about 1.5 hours. During the session, you and your child will participate in a presentation by the curriculum technology department before receiving your device.
Parents will need to pay the fee on the MySchoolBucks website (not the mobile app) prior to your assigned orientation date, and print a copy of the receipt to bring with you to the orientation session. The mobile app will only let you add funds to your child’s lunch account. The fee for high school students is $50 and the fee for middle students is $30. To pay the device fee online:
GMSD will deploy student laptops for students in grades 9-12 during the week of July 23rd. To accommodate families’ work schedules, we have scheduled device orientation and deployment during evening hours. See below for the specific date for each grade level.
We will meet in the Houston High School Auditorium. Report times are based on your student’s last name. Last names beginning with A-K, please report at 5:00p. Last names beginning with L-Z please report at 6:30p. Orientation and device deployment should last about 1.5 hours.During the session, you and your child will see an orientation presentation by the curriculum technology department before receiving your device.
There is a $50 Laptop Maintenance Fee to cover the cost of repairs and maintenance. Families with multiple students in the Blended Learning Program will only be expected to pay a maximum of $100. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if this applies to you.
More information will follow in the next few days, and you will certainly receive a lot of information at your assigned orientation night. If you have any questions, please contact Chris Cooper (email: email@example.com or phone 901-752-7888).
