Germantown, Tennessee--July 2, 2018--Germantown Municipal School District is working on security upgrades over the summer. District staff has engaged the architecture firm, Allen and Hoshall, to complete design work for the addition of security fencing and a secured entrance at Houston High School. Principally though, the district is also using this summer as an opportunity to complete its long range goals of security camera upgrades across all five schools. On security walks with the Germantown Police Department, district officials had previously identified where cameras needed to be placed or replaced.
“We’ve been gradually replacing and adding cameras at each school each year since opening in 2014,” said John Pierce, Director of Information Technology for Germantown Municipal Schools. But, with this year's increased security funds will come a full implementation of that plan—and the installation began in all schools this month. “This will complete our work to have full camera coverage of the district, requiring only camera maintenance annually,” said Pierce.
