Houston High Arts and Athletics Expansion Project seeking additional donors for a July deadline
Germantown, Tennessee—May 21, 2018—
Germantown Municipal School District is a world-class school system. Its sole high school, however, is looking to the community to assist in upgrading some of its facilities—namely the building of a field house, band addition, and auditorium renovations.
In the Fall of 2017, a quest by the Houston High School Football Booster Club appointed a subcommittee to create a vision for a new field house and re-purposing of existing facilities to create a focal area for football games and special event nights began.
The fundraising group created great traction on their project with the support of the school board to seek funds for the field house. They were able to secure the financial support of a single donor who was willing to match funds up to $1 million.
Under the conditions laid out by this donor, the school district and City of Germantown were to also each contribute $1 million, and the football boosters were to raise $1 million in private funds. Another condition included language that states for each $1 million raised towards the field house project that $300,000 is to be earmarked for fine arts improvements at the school.
The sum total for each project amounts to $2.8 million towards a field house project and $1.2 million towards fine arts renovations. Each project, once funded, will be designed and determined by two committees (athletics and fine arts, respectively) made up of teachers, district staff, and parent volunteers. Lastly, the fundraisers were given a deadline of July 1, 2018, to raise the private funds from the community.
“This is an opportunity for the community to join us as partners in creating excellent facilities for our students,” said Superintendent Jason Manuel. “While the field house was definitely a catalyst, this project will benefit multiple groups of students and enhance the school”.
With more donors joining the project each day, Houston High School is appealing to local businesses, parents, grandparents, and alumni who are interested in participating. The group has approximately $650,000 to raise before the July 1st deadline.
