Riverdale’s Aditya Narayanan Places First in Tennessee at State National Geographic Bee

Germantown, Tennessee--May 24, 2018--Aditya Narayanan, a 6th grader at Riverdale Middle School, competed in and won our school-wide National Geographic Bee on January 23. Aditya did not miss any questions. He then took a test at the district level and qualified for the state competition in Nashville.
On April 6, he competed at the state level and placed first in the state. He was awarded $200 by the National Geographic Society along with a $5000 scholarship from a private donor and a 3-day trip to Washington DC.  Aditya will now compete at the national level in Washington DC on May 20, 2018. The National Geographic Bee, hosted by television personality, Mo Rocca, was an intense competition and it was exciting to watch one of GMSD's own students duking it out with the nation's top young geographic minds.
"He is very smart and one of the brightest geography students I've seen," said Dr. Curry, his APEX teacher at Riverdale Elementary School, "This was only his first year to compete, so I am excited to see what happens next--as he'll have more years to compete in this competition".
