HHS theatre has hamilTON of fun granting Make-A-Wish

With a whopping ten HSMTA nominations, it is no secret that the Houston High Theatre Program is one of great caliber and talent, however, this part Tuesday, they proved they are one of great compassion as well. HHS teamed up with Theatre Memphis and other community thespians to help grant the wish of nine-year old Catarina.
Catarina traveled to Memphis from her home in Ecuador for the phenomenal medical care and treatment available through our local hospitals here. There is where the Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted her. She wished to see the smash Broadway hit, Hamilton: An American Musical, but unfortunately was unable to go. However, in response to this disappointment, the team at Houston High, alongside their local counterparts, decided to bring Hamilton to her.
The group choreographed, blocked, and rehearsed several famous favorites from the show, including “Yorktown”, “Schuyler Sisters”, “History Has its Eyes on You”, and more, in preparation for a special showcase at Theatre Memphis just for Catarina.
On the big night, Catarina, done up in Revolutionary War period hair, make-up, and costume, walked the red carpet and experienced a performance designed especially for her. At the program’s end, it was then revealed that she would also be taken on a special, individualized shopping spree to continue the fun.

“It was just amazing,” said participant and 2018 HSMTA nominee Cat Carlin of the evening’s affairs.
We are so proud to not only have such remarkably talented students, but also students devoted to using that talent in enriching the lives of others.
