Often, GMSD has great things happening. Nobody shouts about these great things more (or louder) than our beloved cheerleaders.
Our nationally regarded Houston High cheer team adds so much already in both spirit and athleticism to our district, but this past week they have gone even further to better our community.
Both the Black and Silver cheer squads worked together to put on an instructional cheer camp, teaching over 40 children from all over Memphis the basics of cheerleading.
The entire team brought the expert knowledge that won them the national cheer championship and instructed the kids on stunts, sideline cheers, dances, motions, jumps, and competitive cheers throughout the week. However, the girls leading wanted to ensure the week’s focus wasn’t simply on technique, but also on fun.
“I hope the main take away was to be loud, smile, and have a good time!”, said cheerleader Gracie Makinster.
All this work (and spirited fun) then culminated in a showcase for parents on the last day of camp.
We are so incredibly honored to have such outstanding athletes and volunteers apart of GMSD, and we can’t wait to check out our cheer girls on the sidelines this season. A special thanks to all of them for helping to make GMSD a great place to be.
