As we all say hello to the oncoming summer, Houston High German students say guten-tag to great scores on the National German Exam.
German students collaboratively won thirteen gold medals, sixteen silver medals, and seventeen bronze medals on this year’s exam, which each demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the language in both its written and spoken form.
Among these exemplary students was Jessica Echaurren who won, in addition to her gold medal, first overall in the state of Tennessee for the German II version of the exam, and Joshua Penrod, who also won first in the state for his German I version of the exam.
German II gold-medalist Allison House said this of the class’s success on the exam, “Frau Penrod is a great teacher and we had great instruction, which with our studying and practice tests, helped our German II class do so well on the exam!”
All of these students worked incredibly hard this year and were taught by Houston High’s fantastic German teacher, Mrs. Doreen Penrod, who is exceedingly proud of her student’s accomplishments.
Here at GMSD, we extend our congratulations to the entire German program on their achievements and hope they continue to maintain the GMSD level of excellence.
