HHS Athletic Director Chad Becker recognized by Southeastern Conference and College Football Playoff Foundation

Germantown, TN--November 19, 2018-- Houston High School Athletic Director, Chad Becker, has been recognized by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation for their Extra Yard for Teachers program.

Mr. Becker, in his 25th year at Houston High, is 1 of only 14 educators nationally chosen for the award. The SEC worked with its 14 institutions to identify student-athletes who have had a teacher that greatly impacted his or her life. Each teacher’s school will receive a $10,000 grant from the CFP Foundation and SEC.

Current Vanderbilt Women’s Soccer player and 2016 Houston High graduate, Paola Ellis, honored her former 10th grade English teacher with a testimonial which aired during SEC Nation last Saturday.

“He taught me to fear nothing and conquer everything. He taught me how to be a leader on and off the field, and for that I’m grateful.” Ellis told the SEC Network.


“The Southeastern Conference has been an extraordinary partner in our efforts to elevate the teaching profession since we began the CFP Foundation five years ago,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “The examples of positive influence that teachers have on their students is incredible. We look forward to watching the conference and the SEC Network bring these stories to life each week this season. We thank the SEC and its member schools for their amazing support.”
