Two GMSD students are Carnegie Hall bound this weekend to play their flutes in a prestigious concert series

Germantown, Tennessee--February 7, 2019--Each year, young musicians across the world have the opportunity to apply individually to become a part of an elite international ensemble through the Honors Performance Series.  After submitting a video audition, two GMSD students will be experiencing the opportunity of a lifetime.  And, this week they are headed to New York City to perform and Carnegie Hall through the program.

Amy Li, a Houston High School tenth grader and Sophia Cheng, a 9th grader are packing up their flutes for a weekend of adventure, hard work, and a momentous, culminating performance in the world-famous venue.

Sophia is not a stranger to the program and has been once before—in middle school when she auditioned and made it into the program.  This will be her second time to play at Carnegie Hall.  “It’s just an incredible time,” she said.  “Carnegie is so pretty and your sound is unbelievable.  I’ll never forget the way that first note sounded,” said Sophia.

This will be Amy’s first time to perform at Carnegie Hall, but she is no less excited.  “I’ve chosen to see Wicked during our Broadway Night out,” she said.  Additionally, she’s also auditioned and been chosen for a summer program through the same organization and will be traveling to play at the Sydney Opera House with like-minded peers.

Germantown Municipal School District is proud of these two exceptional student musicians.
