Be Our Guest; as the Raider Theater presents Beauty & the Beast Jr. this weekend

Germantown, Tennessee--March 24, 2019--Raider Theater presents Beauty & the Beast, Jr. March 28-30th at 7pm with a 2pm matinee on Saturday in Gym B at the back of the school. Tickets are available for purchase (cash or check only) 30 minutes prior to the each show. Tickets may also be purchased on line at On-line tickets are good for any show and will be available at will-call each night. A Silent Auction will be held Thursday, on opening night only! Bid on a principal for a day, as well as great jewelry, outings, art work, gifts, and more!

Houston High School is collecting old shoes.

Houston High, Farmington, and Riverdale are hosting a shoe drive!

Germantown, Tennessee--March 25, 2019--Houston High, Farmington, and Riverdale are having a shoe drive!

Here is how it works:

  1. We are accepting gently worn, used and new adult and/or children shoes through April 15th
  2. Acceptable shoes are flip flops, tennis shoes, heels, boots, sandals…
  3. Shoes will be picked up by Funds2Org, a for profit organization, who will redistribute to microenterprise partners and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start their own businesses.
  4. Funds2Org will pay per pound and send a check to Operation Red Shoes (on behalf of GMSD), a non-profit organization, who benefits St. Jude patients and families with essential assistance.
  5. Once Operation Red Shoes receives a check, they will host an event for those involved to be a part of the giveaway to the St. Jude patient and family.

Congratulations to All GMSD Cheer teams on winning their National Competitions in Florida!

Germantown, Tennessee--February 10, 2019--Congratulations to All GMSD Cheer teams on winning their National Competitions in Florida!

Houston High Varsity Cheer won 2nd in the Super Varsity Division National Competition and were the World Champions for the 2nd consecutive year in the same division.


Houston High Junior Varsity Cheer was the national Champion in the Junior Varsity Non-Tumbling Large Division. They were 2nd in the Worlds in the same division.


Houston Middle School competed in the Large Junior High Division. They were named National Champions for the 4th year in a row. They were 2nd in the World School Competition.

 Riverdale brought home 4th place this year in the Junior High non-tumbling division. They competed for the first time in the Worlds Competition and placed third overall.

GMSD students walk 31,315 miles last semester--enough to walk across the state of Tennessee 63 times

Germantown, Tennessee--January 15, 2019-- Walk Across Tennessee is a team-based walking program where teams are encouraged to cumulatively walk the equivalent of the length of Tennessee (about 500 miles) over an eight-week period. The several classes at GMSD that participated in this event not only gained healthy lifestyle habits along the way, but fun physical activity prizes for classes to utilize during recess if the goal of 500 miles was met.
Some of these prizes included kickballs, kickball bases, footballs, jump rope, and throwing scoops with whiffle balls. The top three placing classes were even awarded bragging rights trophies.

Sophia Overstreet Wins 2019 Shelby County Spelling Bee

Sophia Overstreet Proceeds to National Spelling Bee!

Germantown, Tennessee – February 21, 2019 - On February 9th, 2019, Sophia Overstreet- an 8th-grade student at Riverdale Elementary School- stepped up to the microphone. Sophia spelled against 51 others over the course of 15 rounds. In the end, she came out on top as the Shelby County Spelling Bee champion for 2019.

Raiders celebrate Ms. Wade's class for logging 3,143 miles last semester in Walk Across TN competition

Walk Across TN took place last semester. Classes were encouraged to cumulatively walk equivalently the length of TN (about 500 miles) in an 8 week period. Mrs. Wade’s 2nd grade class was the bragging rights trophy winner with 3,143 miles. More +
