April 6th

Ronald Nelson was accepted to all 8 Ivy League schools, Stanford and several other prestigious colleges, which is a very unique accomplishment. Ronald is a senior at Houston High School. He held a weighted grade point average of 4.58, and scored a 34 on the ACT. He is a National Merit and a National Achievement Scholar. In addition to his academic success, he has had many other accomplishments. He is the Drum Major/Field Commander for Houston High School’s large marching band with over 300 members. He has held memberships in the HHS Honor’s Academy, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National Beta Club, and the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. Congratulations Ronald!! Your hard work has paid off.

April 7th

-Congratulations to Houston Middle 8th grader, Allison House, for winning two awards at the University of Memphis' 2014-2015 Foreign Language Fair! On March 28th, Allison competed with area high school students taking Spanish Level 1 and she just found out that she was awarded 1st place in Foreign Language Essay Writing and 2nd place in Poetry Recitation.

-Riverdale hosted Highland Oaks Middle and Collierville Middle for the South Regional Battle of the Books Competition. Riverdale won against both teams and will advance to compete against the winner of the North Region (Appling Middle) this week. The kids did great and really excelled against the other teams. Thank you to Michelle Woodlee who volunteered as moderator, and Felicia Cocroft who was the timekeeper. Both ladies did a great job!

April 8th

Katarina Jankov, junior at Houston High School, is the recipient of the Yale Book Award.


April 9th

Khushi Patel, Farmington Elementary, is the grand prize winner of the 2015 Valero International Children's Poster Competition for Memphis in May! Kushi's poster was selected from close to 250 entries. We can't wait to see it.


April 10th

-Three students from Dogwood Elementary School were chosen to be a part of the All State Treble Choir that performed at the State Conference at the Canon Center in Memphis, on April 9. Honorees are Fifth Graders: Emma Whitmire, Paul Weinhold, and Layla Magee. Also pictured is their Music teacher, Mr. Simons.

-Results of the Mustang “Reading” Marathon



Dogwood’s fifth grade Destination Imagination team placed 2nd in their division at the state competition today. They are headed to Globals in Knoxville!! We are so proud of these students!

Riverdale 4th and 5th grade Destination Imagination team, the Technical Raiders, also represented GMSD in the TN tournament and placed 7th in their category.
