Cheerleading

HOUSTON MIDDLE CHEER is one of the top middle school competitive cheer teams in the nation--coached by Chris Crabtree.  Since the school’s inception, it has won the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship 13 times!  This past season’s title was a five-peat, having won in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, & 2020.

The team cheers at Houston Middle basketball games, and competes at the local, state, national and world competitions!   During the 2019-2020 school year, the team placed first in the Mid-South Regional competition, Blue Grass Regional, and the Large Junior High division of the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, FL.   Houston Middle cheer also brought home the first-place title in the World Schools Cheerleading Competition in the Junior High division! This year we were unable to compete in our state.  We went south and won the Magnolia Regional competition in Jackson, MS.  We were invited to compete in the N'finity Cup and NHSCC national cheer competition; both of which take place at the end of April 2021

Our cheerleaders and their parents (the Houston Middle cheer boosters) are involved in many aspects of Houston Middle School and the local community. From being present at school functions including school dances, dodge ball tournament, and school basketball games, to give extra time for community charities such as Salvation Army's Angel Tree, the St. Jude Marathon, GMSD color run, and Hope Special Kids Fall Fest, the team has fun and stays busy.

Practices are mandatory and involve a minimum of three days per week. As we approach competitions and during basketball games, some weeks will require 5 or 6 days.
