Audition Information

Parents,

We are working to make the audition process easy for you.  Here are some tips:

  1. Students will learn all ten audition snippets at our workshop on Thursday, March 5th.  They will also learn a 30 second dance from Puttin on the Ritz.
  2. The workshop is an extension of the audition.  We are looking for performers that enjoy the process and it gives us a chance to work with them--this is vital as there aren't "roles" in this play.  While not mandatory, the workshop is strongly recommended
  3. Students will choose one song to present on our audition day and will be asked to perform the dance with a large group of students.
  4. The director may ask students to sing other songs--none need to be memorized.
  5. DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD STRESS over preparation for these auditions.  Our workshop and auditions should feel like a rehearsal and culminate in a moment for your child to share their favorite snippet with us.
  6. Do pack a snack and water bottle.
  7. If your child already owns them because they take dance classes, please send them with jazz or ballet shoes--otherwise, tennis shoes are perfectly fine.
  8. Please fill out the electronic audition form prior to Thursday afternoon.

Friend Like Me

0:38-1:00 only

Mr. Aladdin, sir

What will your pleasure be?

Let me take your order, jot it down.

You ain’t never had a friend like me, no, no, no!

Life is your restaurant and I’m your maître d’

Come on, whisper what it is you want

You ain’t never had a friend like me

Matchmaker

0:48-1:16 only

For Papa make him a scholar

For Mama make him rich as a king

For me, well, I wouldn’t holler

If (s)he were as handsome as anything

Matchmaker, Matchmaker make me a match

Find me a find, catch me a catch

Night after night in the dark I’m alone

So find me a match of my own!

She’s in love

1:26-2:19

She acts like she don’t see me

She doesn’t even speak

She treats me like sashimi left over from last week

You see her late at night—tossin’ in her ocean bed

She’s moody as a snapper, oblivious as rocks

You swim right up and tap her—she lays there like a lox

As sure as dogfish bites, somethings made her lose her head

And she sighs and she swoons, and she’s hummin little tunes

Even has a sorta glow

What on Earth could it be?  Any hammerhead could see—

That sigh! That glow! That swoon! Oh no!

She’s in Love! She’s in Love!

See her hips, how they swish

Don’t you wonder who’s the lucky seafood dish

Be Prepared

1:14-1:45 only

So prepare for the chance of a lifetime

Be prepared for sensational news

A shining new era is tiptoeing nearer

And where do we feature? Just listen to teacher.

I know it sounds sordid, but you’ll be rewarded

When at last I am given my dues

And in justice deliciously squared

Be Prepared!

Sandy (from Annie)

0:48-1:20 only

So how about champion?

Champion you’re anything but

We could call him tiger—but there’s no bite in him

Tiger—pllt!—kittens would frighten him

Rover! Why not think I t over?

Rover is the perfect name for this dumb looking dog.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

1:07-1:56 only

Someday I’ll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me

Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops

That’s where you’ll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow

Blue birds fly

Birds fly over the rainbow

Why oh why can’t I?

Hound Dog

0:05-0:28 only

You ain’t nothin but a hound dog crying all the time

You ain’t nothin but a hound dog crying all the time

Well, you ain’t never caught a rabbit and you ain’t no friend of mine.

Poor Unfortunate Souls

0:37-1:07 only

Poor unfortunate souls

In pain, in need

This one longing to be thinner

That one wants to get the girl

And do I help them?

Yes, indeed!

Those poor unfortunate souls

So sad, so true

They come flocking to my cauldron Crying, "Spells, Ursula, please!"

And I help them

Yes I do!

Rainbow—Sia

1:01-1:23 only

I can see a rainbow

In your tears as they fall on down

I can see your soul grow

Through the pain as they hit the ground

I can see a rainbow

In your tears as the sun comes out

As the sun comes out
