Are you 'unplugging' from work?
As you are enjoying time with your family and friends over
Fall Break, it’s a great time to reflect on your work-life balance.
Maintaining a good balance will help you to keep your focus on the most
important thing in the district—our kids. The fall and winter seasons
can be stressful both inside and outside of the classrooms, but being the
best for our students starts with being the best “you”. You have to
make sure that you are taking care of yourself so that you can be of service
to others. Similar to when you are listening to your flight attendant
go over airplane safety instructions—I am reminding you to “put the mask on
yourself before you assist others.” Consider ways that you can mentally
and emotionally unplug from work when you are not there.
Did you know that Germantown Municipal School District
is ranked in the top 2% of school districts in the U.S. on
Niche.com? The evidence of your good work continues to
accumulate. So, I challenge each one of you to enter the second quarter
with a renewed interest in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Jason Manuel, Superintendent
Social Media Reminders and Tips
Social Media is a wonderful tool for communication and school
promotion, when used correctly. GMSD has staff members with active
professional profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Other staff
members prefer closed platforms like Bloomz and Schoology. Many
staff members also maintain personal accounts across social media
REMINDER: Please be aware that
posts can have an effect on your professional image and that you have agreed
to abide by the GMSD Policy 5.611, TN Teacher Code of Ethics and GMSD
Employee Responsibility and Ethics, linked below.
TIP: Are you new to
Instagram? Check out this article about setting up Insta Story Templates.
Keep your classroom-brand a step above the rest with these easy to implement tactics. Also, consider
using your official HEX school colors in your templates:
DES: #007ff; accent color #91afd9
FES: #16ac6b; accent colors #0a5236 and #f0bd27
FHES: #014b86; accent colors #eb862c and #768ab3
& HHS: Black and White; accent colors #dde1e2 or #c4203b

The District Update
GMSD Master Facilities Planning Committee met earlier this month and
presented their work to the school board in October, for highlights from
their facilities priority list, click to read the report here. Also discussed
in October, the relationship of resident and non-resident students continues
to balance--as resident numbers grow non-residents decline leaving GMSD with
a steady enrollment number. In September, the Superintendent spoke
about the rigorous and time consuming TEAM evaluations and how GMSD believes
in developing its employees. You can read that report here. Lastly, the
district office move-in day is officially October 16. Wednesday is the
last day in the Carrefour Shopping Center. The new address is 3350 S.
Forest Hill Irene Rd. All phone numbers are staying the same.
Video Clip of the Month:
Houston High School Film students worked on their very first Ultra High Definition 4K projects this month, putting Germantown Municipal Television on the cutting edge of TV broadcasting. This should make you smile--it's a music video remake of Tainted Love by the talented film students from Drew Hamilton and Ryan Sweeney's filmmaking classes.
