HMS 8th grader selected to play in one of the most competitive tournaments in the nation

Maggie Klug was chosen to play amongst the nation's best softball players at the Trailblazer Series baseball tournament this weekend. Way to go, Maggie!

On Friday, April 7, the second graders at Dogwood Elementary School experienced what life was like in the 1800-1900’s by wearing pioneer attire, playing outdoor games, and inviting parents to attend a square dance in the gym.  
Foreign Language Department enjoys their annual fair at the UofM and International Extravaganza Night

Each year the University of Memphis organizes the Foreign Language Fair with categories like vocabulary quiz, art, crafts, projects, poster, poetry recitation, writing, video, music, song, dance, and costumes.  Our high school students enjoyed a few wins at the competition.  Also last week, we saw an amazing show at the International Extravaganza. 



Whether integrated into curriculum, a stand alone course, or present in after school activities, STEM shines throughout Germantown Municipal School District. Special to the Recap, a thank you letter from Missy Abel addressed to all of the teachers involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Khushi Patel, a student at Farmington Elementary, entered a contest by the TN Bureau of Investigation for the best Missing Children's Poster.  Patel has once again WON the contest--she is a mutliple time poster winner.


HHS student accepted into Carnegie Mellon's prestigious Computer Science program

Jesse Keck, a senior at Houston, was recently accepted into Carnegie Mellon for Computer Science and Navy ROTC.

HHS Orchestra does a Mardi-GREAT Job at New Orleans Competition

On a both fun and academically-rewarding trip, Houston High’s orchestra was awarded the highest score at the 2017 Worldstrides Music Festival in New Orleans.


HHS Anatomy teacher Jessica Minton awarded accolades in a recent St. Jude publication

Mrs. Minton, the anatomy teacher at Houston High, partnered up with St. Jude to bring real-world science into her classroom.


Middle school art students continue to bring in awards at the Mid-South Scholastic Art Awards

17 HMS art students received awards for their artwork in the competitive Mid-South Scholastic Art competition.  Congratulations to their hard working teachers, Mrs. Nickells, Mrs. Wrobleski, and Mrs. Higginbothom.

Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society.


Sydney Kong is named TN All-Girls Chess Champion

Shortly after a team victory in which Houston Middle School claimed a state title, Sydney Kong competed in a state competition as an individual and came home with the title.

The Germantown Education Foundation has announced they are ready to receive applications for their 2017 Individual Educator and School Grants. "It's time to imagine ways to enhance your classroom," said GEF Executive Director Stephanie Brockway. 
Speaking of the grant application window opening—help the GEF raise funds for our GMSD teachers!  Rock climbing wall, food trucks, vendors, 2 entertainment stages, and more- join us for the GMSD Stampede on April 23.  
GMSD Gets Ready for its Close-up:  School Snapshots--Please spread the word. 
We need your help getting the word out about the best teaching jobs in TN. Please share with any of your teacher friends who may be considering a change, your student teachers, etc. Make sure that they REGISTER to attend GMSD School Snapshots-A chance for casual conversation with teachers, administrators, and a few other surprise guests. Our team can hardly wait to see what the schools have in store this year.  We are still in awe of the 'speed dating' witnessed at Riverdale last year.

Mrs. Robyn Nickell will be conducting an art camp this summer at Houston Middle School from May 30th through June 2nd. The art camp will be from 9am-1pm and is open to all upcoming HMS sixth grade artists.
