Lifetime Wellness- This course is designed as an integration of both health
and physical education with an emphasis on the lifelong process of positive
lifestyle management. The mission of
this course is to provide each student with information and ideas in the
mental, social, and physical dimensions of health. Students completing this course will be
better prepared to assume responsibilities for their personal lifelong
health.

Grading Policy: Grades will be earned daily while in the gym for participation and uniform. This will make up 50% of the student’s final grade. The other 50% comes from the classroom (classwork/quizzes, tests).

About Me: I am a graduate of the University of Memphis having earned both my Bachelors’ of Arts and Science in 2004 (concentration in English and History) and my Masters’ of Science (concentration in Physical Education Teacher Education) in 2012. I taught as an Adjunct at the University of Memphis for the Department of Sports Science and later for the School of Health Studies. I also taught as the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Instructor at East Arkansas Community College. I am a native Memphian but lived for a brief time in Houston, TX and three years in Maricopa, Arizona. I embody what I teach. I am a fitness and wellness enthusiast. I am an avid runner having finished 7 half marathons, numerous 10K’s and more 5K’s than I can count. I have also participated and completed two triathlons. I am currently training for my first Tough Mudder which I plan to compete in next year. I believe that wellness is a way of life and I strive to teach my students to be active and healthy for a lifetime not a semester or two. I am also married and have three children who attend the GMSD.
