It demonstrates the hard work of our students, teachers, and administration. EXCELLENT ATHLETICS

HOUSTON HIGH GIRLS SOCCER TEAM #1 IN THE STATE, #1 IN THE NATION

 

 

Germantown, Tennessee—October 30, 2017—The Varsity Girls Soccer Team won Houston High’s 36th Team State Championship, the program’s 8th, with a 1-0 victory over Collierville in Murfreesboro at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex on Saturday.

HOUSTON MIDDLE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TAKE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP; AND MANY OTHER STORIES ON CROSS COUNTRY ACROSS THE DISTRICT

 

 

Last month, many of our GMSD cross country runners packed up their tennis shoes and ran across the state to Knoxville to compete in the Tennessee Cross Country State Championships.

7TH - 9TH GRADE STUDENTS MAKE A STRONG SHOWING AT CHORAL ALL-WEST THIS WEEKEND

 

 

Germantown, Tennessee—October 29, 2017—Students in grades 7-9 across the region spent their Saturday auditioning for judges in competition for a coveted spot in the WTVMEA Junior High School Honor Choir (All-West).  This year, thirteen of our students across three schools (Houston High School, Riverdale, and Houston Middle School) have made the prestigious group.

OUR TOWN AT HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL OPENS THIS WEEKEND--GET YOUR TICKETS NOW

 

 

Houston High’s award-winning theatre program has put together another spectacular show for the fall season. Talented HHS students will present the classic play Our Town by Thornton Wilder this upcoming November 3-6. Guided by a duo of insightful narrators, the show utilizes clever language and complex themes to tell the tale of a young couple, George and Emily, as they move through their childhood into marriage and beyond.

RIVALRY WITH A CAUSE FUNDS MAKE-A-WISH ORGANIZATION; AND AMONG THE DONATION GRANTS A WISH TO HHS STUDENT TO SWIM WITH OTTERS

 

 

Germantown, Tennessee—October 26, 2017—For Houston, this cause is especially dear to our hearts though. While the amount raised was truly incredible, the most special part of the experience was being able to grant a fellow student’s wish. At the Thursday night soccer victory over Collierville, Houston students surprised Chandler Howard, a Houston student and former St. Jude patient.

GERMANTOWN FIREFIGHTERS PERFORM ANNUAL SAFETY SHOW TO ELEMENTARY-AGED CHILDREN IN THE DISTRICT

RIVERDALE STUDENTS EXPERIENCE FREEDOM AWARD STUDENT FORUM AT THE NATIONAL CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM

Germantown, Tennessee—October 23, 2017—Twenty-two Riverdale students were able to travel to the museum’s annual Freedom Award Student Forum at the National Civil Rights Museum.  Memphis is a city steeped in rich history and culture, and  our students are routinely granted the opportunity to explore and learn from our sister city.

DOGWOOD FOURTH GRADERS SPEND SATURDAY PLAYING BOARD GAMES WITH THE ELDERLY

 

 

They brought the joyful liveliness only fourth graders can provide and played board games, chatted, and just kept general company with the elderly residents there. Their teacher, Cassidy Van Voorst, said of her students, “The children were absolutely amazing with the senior citizens, playing games and interacting with them. It brought me so much happiness”.

GERMANTOWN LIBRARY HOSTS ANOTHER SPECIAL CONTEST THROUGH THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER

Germantown, Tennessee—October 31, 2017—Throughout the month of November, there will be a competition between all of the schools in Germantown. The library wants to further both the intellect and interest of reading in local students and is doing so by offering prizes to dedicated readers.

On this month's show, we visit Shannon Ward’s classroom. Then he speaks with Houston Middle Girls' Cross Country team captains Agustina Naldoza & Emma Adair about their state championship win. Later, enjoy a performance from Houston Middle student, Misha Agrawal. Finally, the alumni spotlight is on Houston High's Matt Cain.
