Germantown Municipal School District one of fifty-five to earn STRAIGHT FIVES in all composite areas on its TVAAS data—Way to go teachers and staff!

Five Houston High School students join the ranks of the nation's top students this year as the National Merit Scholarship Program names its semi-finalists.

Girls Golf Wins Region Championship By A Stunning 42 Shots

 

  
 
It what may have been the best team round turned in by a Girls Golf Team in the nation this year, Jayna Choi and Baili Park won Our 3rd consecutive Region Championship by 42 shots. Their next step is to try and bring the State Championship home for the 2nd time in 3 years.

In English classes across the district, students are cracking open their literature books and diving into a variety of Shakespearean selections, from Romeo & Juliet to Hamlet. However, one Houston student is involving herself in the Elizabethan Age in a much more contemporary way.

Farmington third graders experience the joy of giving in the wake of Hurricane Harvey

 

 
 
Ms. Lewis’ and Mrs. Rhodes’ third grade classrooms at Farmington Elementary School adopted a classroom from a school in Houston, TX, who were victims of Hurricane Harvey. Along with collecting items on a requested list, they met up at Target to purchase many items.

For 18th Consecutive Year, Boys Golf Wins Region Championship

 

 
 
A phrase used for every Houston Boys Golf team for almost two decades was used again on Thursday to describe the 2017 group…Regional Champions.  Lead by King Grisanti’s 71, We beat White Station by 11 shots, Collierville by 15 shots and Bartlett by 39 shots.  Grey Smith shot a 76 and Travis Olsen added a 79 giving Us the only team with three teammates turning in sub 80 rounds on the day.

Traci Spain is the heart of Houston High School in Germantown, TN.  As a teacher she is a regular fixture at athletic games and artistic performances.  But, what impresses us most about her is her DRIVE.  Traci is incredibly committed to helping our students develop as leaders themselves.

At GMSD, we are not only trying to build up students intellectually versed in a wide array of subjects, but also a community of people all working within to make each other better. This was seen this past Friday as Houston High students flooded the cafeterias of Dogwood, Farmington, and Riverdale for some impromptu pep-rallies.

Football Victory Over Bartlett Culminates Night of Community

 

 
 
Our Varsity Football Team culminated a night of community celebration with a 26-20 Region win over Bartlett.  Junior Chris Colebank led Our offensive attack with 2 touchdowns while rushing for 204 yards on 31 carries, while Sophomore quarterback Ethan Burns was 9 of 17 passing for 99 yards and a single touchdown pass to Grayson Hitt.

A community partnership provides 'great optics' for a local optometrist and GMSD

 

 
 
The Optical Boutique of Dr. Steven Shum graciously donated free eye examinations to students all across GMSD at Farmington, Dogwood, Riverdale, and Houston Middle. Thanks to Dr. Shum and his dedicated team of optometry professionals, students in grades K, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th all received traditional vision screenings, complete with colorblindness, near/far sightedness and binocular vision tests, free of charge.

Girls Cross Country Wins Prestigious Tournament

 

 
 
Held of the home of the State Championship in Nashville, We beat a field of 26 teams for the four corners of the State. Some of those high quality programs: Siegel, Brentwood, Franklin, and Science Hill will be among those in the mix for the State Title in a few weeks.

Germantown Library offer a $2,500 classroom makeover to the winner of Every Book Counts

 The Germantown Library has graciously offered to donate a $2,500 classroom makeover to the school whose students have read the most book pages by May 1, 2018. However, this incredible prize will only be awarded if the community assists in helping the library reach a set of literary goals. These goals include 20,000 active library cards, an average of 10 books read per student, and 100% participation in the Books from Birth program.

GMSD participates in a variety of healthful activities all year long, from Walk-to-School Wednesdays to varsity sports to after-school running clubs. The City of Germantown also sets forth great healthful activities.
