The Houston Classic: April 9-11, 2026

The 32nd annual Houston Track & Field Classic will be held April 9-11, with middle school competing on Thursday and high school competing on Friday and Saturday, and it is sure to draw competitors from all across the region. Out of state teams are approved to attend via NFHS rules. The meet follows all TSSAA rules, including the four-event limit per athlete. Awards include medals for the top three finishers (including relay members), trophies for the top two boys’ and girls’ teams, and special recognitions for outstanding athletes and the top overall performance. Unified Track events will again be featured, giving athletes of all abilities the opportunity to compete together. The Houston Classic is a unique event and also features scoreboard times, BillytheToad, DJ Jaja Nebo, vendors, and so much more.

ENTRY DEADLINE: All entries are due no later than Friday, April 10th 9AM.

Winning a race at the Houston Classic put you in the position to be a top contender at the state level. This is some of the highest competition for the season and is a great preparation for young athletes.

Friday Events

4:00pm start time for running and field events.
FIELD events - up to 3 entries per event:
- VARSITY boys High Jump; Girls 5:00pm
- VARSITY Long Jump boys and girls
- VARSITY boys Pole Vault
- VARSITY SHOT boys, then girls
- VARSITY DISCUS girls, then boys
- VARSITY Triple Jump boys and girls, 6:00pm
- All field events will be finals.
- Horizontal events (Throws, LJ, TJ) will receive 4 attempts.
TRACK events:
- VARSITY SMR - 100, 100, 200, 400
- VARSITY DMR - 1200, 400, 800, 1600
- VARSITY 3200M Run
OPEN running events - up to 4 entries per event:
- 100M Dash
- 1600M Run
- 200M Dash

Saturday Events

9:00am start time for running and field events.
FIELD events:
- VARSITY Pole Vault - girls
- All field events will be finals.
- Horizontal events (Throws, LJ, TJ) will receive 4 attempts.
- OPEN Long Jump boys and girls
- OPEN Shot Put boys, then girls
- OPEN Discus girls, then boys
TRACK events:
- 4x800M Relay
- 100/110M Hurdles
- 100M Dash (Unified last)
- 4x200M Relay
- 1600M Run
- 4x100M Relay (Unified first)
- 400M Dash
- 300M Hurdles
- 800M Run
- 200M Dash
- 4x400M Relay
UNIFIED events will take place Saturday, April 11 during the 100 and 4x100.

Entry Fees

$200 per boys team / $200 per girls team
Individuals: $25 each (up to 6 athletes; beyond 6, team fee applies)

Event Guidelines

Varsity Events

Up to 5 entries per running event
Up to 3 entries per field event
1 relay team per event
We will follow TSSAA rules. A contestant shall not be entered in more than four (4) events. A contestant shall not compete in more than four (4) events.
Athletes must meet entry standards. Otherwise, they should enter the OPEN division of the meet or run on relays.

Varsity Entry Standards

Open Events

100H/110H, 100, 200, 1600 – up to 4 entries
Shot put, long jump, discus – up to 3 entries

Field Events

All field events will be finals. Horizontal events (Throws, LJ, TJ) will receive 4 attempts.

Unified Events

We are excited to announce the addition of Unified Track to the Houston Classic. Special needs students from several local schools will have the opportunity of competing along-side their fellow student athletes in the following events: shot, long jump, 100M dash, 4x100M relay.

Unified events will take place Saturday, April 11 during the 100 and 4x100.
Maximum 5 entries per event
- Shot, long jump, 100M, 4x100 relay

Seeding Information

Check-In

Athletes will check in with the Clerk of Course (big Houston pop-up tent) at the north end of the field 30 minutes prior to the event to receive lane assignments and hip numbers. Athletes are then allowed into the track warm up area and wait for their heat. Athletes will NOT check in at the finish line. Coaches not assisting in running the meet and athletes not warming up will not be allowed entry.

TEAMS and COACHES should be in the stands to cheer for their team. Teams will not be allowed to hang out in the warm up area.
