Award-Winning Programs

GMSD consistently leads the region with the highest number of All-West and All-State performers, while our students shine on prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall, Vatican City, and Walt Disney World. Houston High School’s theater program has garnered multiple nominations at the Orpheum's High School Musical Theatre Awards, including Best Overall Production, and our students have proudly performed on this iconic stage.

We believe in starting young! Students are introduced to music through unique programs like elementary orchestra and steel drums, while theater and TV/film production opportunities abound at the elementary and middle school levels. These early experiences build a strong foundation, inspiring students to pursue the arts as they grow.

Art

Band

GMSD’s award-winning band program offers opportunities for students from middle through high school. With specialized instructors for each instrument, students can participate in marching band, symphony, wind ensembles, and jazz band. The program also features a talented colorguard and drumline, providing a dynamic and comprehensive music education experience.

Choir

GMSD’s choir program offers opportunities for students from elementary through high school to develop their vocal talents. From large choirs and choral ensembles to a cappella groups, students can explore a variety of styles and performance experiences. With multiple community performances throughout the year, our choirs showcase their talents while connecting with the community.

Orchestra

The GMSD Orchestra program is one of the largest in the Mid-South, offering students the opportunity to develop their musical talents from elementary school through high school. With a strong focus on excellence and collaboration, our program has grown into a powerhouse of talent. This year, our orchestra students set a new record for the number of selections to the prestigious All-West ensembles, showcasing their dedication and skill. Whether beginners or advanced musicians, GMSD orchestra students are part of a tradition of excellence that continues to thrive.

Theater

GMSD’s theater program is truly special, offering full-scale musical productions for students at every elementary and middle school. At the high school level, the program becomes highly competitive and award-winning, earning multiple HTMSA nominations and securing "Overall Best Production" twice. It’s a stage for creativity and excellence at every level!
