April 2026 - Houston High School’s mechatronics program is giving students hands-on experience with real-world engineering, from building pneumatic launchers to exploring city traffic systems, helping them connect classroom learning to real-life applications.

April 2026 - GMSD will provide all students with a brief, age-appropriate firearm safety lesson after state testing this spring, in compliance with Tennessee law.

April 2026 - GMSD band and orchestra students earned top honors by performing in the All-State ensembles at the Tennessee Music Education Association conference, where the district was also represented by a Hall of Fame induction and meaningful connections with leading composers.

April 2026 - Former Houston High School band director Jim Smith has been inducted into the Tennessee Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors in the profession and a rare recognition for West Tennessee educators.
