GMSD exhibits some of the highest overall proficiency rates in all tested subjects in comparison to other districts in the state

July 6, 2022--GMSD is proud that we had some of the highest overall proficiency rates in all tested subjects in comparison to other districts in the state.

The state highlighted that students in GMSD have surpassed the 4th grade ELA 2019 pre-pandemic level proficiency rates and 7th grade Math proficiency increased by 15% in one year.

“Our teachers and administrators work with individual student data to diagnose student skill deficits and mastery throughout the school year.  Our investments as a district in interventions range from small group tutoring both during and after school, academically focused summer instruction, Saturday Schools, and classroom support,” said Superintendent Jason Manuel.

Germantown Municipal School District is also extremely proud that students saw increases in proficiency across grade levels and subject areas.

  • In 3rd-5th Grade ELA, an average proficiency increase by grade band of 6.5%
  • In 3rd-5th Grade Math, an average proficiency increase by grade level of 5.1%
  • In 6th-8th Grade ELA, an average proficiency increase by grade level of 5.4%
  • In 6th-8th Grade Math, an average proficiency increase by grade level of 9.8%
  • In high school English I and II, an average proficiency increase by course 7.8%
  • In high school Algebra I, II, and Geometry, an average proficiency increase by course 6.5%

“Regardless of what challenges our teachers and students faced, our data demonstrates noteworthy growth across all grade levels.  These gains can be attributed to our staff’s dedication to intentional, targeted instruction for every student” said Missy Abel, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.
