Winter Weather Alert: GMSD closed on Friday, February 4th, 2022

GMSD will be closed on Friday, February 4th due to current inclement weather conditions and forecasts for tonight and tomorrow.

Winter Weather Alert

Whenever winter weather rolls through, school systems are faced with the daunting task of deciding if schools need to close to keep students, staff, and parents safe.  The Germantown Municipal School District’s Inclement Weather Team has been carefully monitoring current conditions as well as tonight's and tomorrow’s weather forecasts and has identified potential safety concerns for students and staff. GMSD has received verified reports of students/parents and staff managing power outages, downed limbs/trees, and hazardous road conditions. GMSD has staff who live throughout Shelby County, as well as Mississippi, Fayette County, Haywood County, and other surrounding areas.

The Germantown Municipal School District has several extra days, above and beyond what is required by the state, built into the calendar in the event of inclement weather or other school closures. These extra days do not have to be made up and must be exhausted before GMSD exercises virtual learning days.

The status of after school activity cancellations will be determined at a later time.  *GOAL families should look for an email from Dr. Heather Fisher for additional information specific to our stand-alone virtual school students.
