ABOUT MAINTENANCE/CUSTODIAL
This department is dedicated to providing a safe, clean, and functional learning environment for students, staff, parents, and community members who utilize our facilities.
MAINTENANCE
Maintenance addresses issues on our campuses, including, but not limited to: Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, locksmith, grounds maintenance, and many others. Since our inception in 2014, GMSD has utilized SchoolDude software for our maintenance work order system. GMSD has averaged over 1,500 maintenance work orders per year, fixing everything from leaking toilets to broken door handles, and everything in between.
The department utilizes a hybrid approach to maintenance. Our GMSD maintenance group consists of 11 GMSD employees. Each school has a plant manager assigned to each campus. These GMSD employees are responsible for all matters related to the physical plant at their respective locations. In addition, GMSD outsources maintenance to ABM/GCA maintenance services, who provide skilled tradesmen in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmithing, and carpentry. GMSD also outsources other work on an as needed basis.
This department's responsibilities go far above and beyond providing general repairs and cleaning services for the District. We are also responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance (OSHA, TOSHA, and AHERA, just to name a few), overseeing contracted services, maintaining fire/sprinkler systems, energy management and building automation, ADA, security systems, plant safety, and complying with all necessary laws and building codes during repairs and renovations.
CUSTODIAL
The GMSD custodial group consists of 6 day porters who are GMSD employees, each assigned to a school in our District. GMSD outsources all remaining custodial services to SKB Facilities and Maintenance, which also services the Memphis International Airport and the Memphis Police Department, among other large clients. PAINTING
GMSD bids out painting our campuses. GMSD now has seven campuses. Our goal is to paint one campus per summer. Right now, our tentative painting schedule is below. This is subject to existing conditions, funding being available, and board approval.

GROUNDS
For grounds maintenance, GMSD outsources all landscaping services to Agriscapes. This includes light tree trimming, flower and bed maintenance, leaf removal, and all other aspects of landscaping. GMSD also has a partnership with the City of Germantown for mowing and edging our campuses. In exchange for mowing and edging our campuses, the City of Germantown utilizes our campuses for the City of Germantown youth basketball league. This is a barter arrangement that benefits both parties.
