Communications Internships

Lead at the District Level

The GMSD Internship Program offers high school juniors and seniors a unique, paid opportunity to explore careers in marketing, communications, and digital media. Each year, six students are selected through a competitive interview process to join the GMSD Communications Department. Interns work at the district office with a flexible schedule, gaining hands-on experience in social media management, videography, photography, journalism, graphic design, office management, and more.

Tips for Landing a Spot in the GMSD Internship Program

The GMSD Internship Program is one of the most competitive opportunities offered to juniors and seniors, with over 70 applicants vying for just six spots last year. Here’s how to stand out and increase your chances of being selected next year:

  1. Craft a Compelling Resume
Highlight your contributions to GMSD, your school, and the community. Showcase leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and volunteer efforts that demonstrate your commitment and initiative.

  2. Do Your Research
Familiarize yourself with GMSD communications tools and platforms, including our strategic plan, app, weekly newsletter, websites, and social media channels. In interviews, offer thoughtful insights about how you can contribute based on what you’ve observed.

  3. Showcase Your Creative Work
Be prepared to share examples of your creative talents following your first virtual interview. Share school-related social media posts, class projects, short films, photographs, or other relevant samples that highlight your skills in marketing, graphic design, or communications.

  4. Excel in the Second Round
Finalists are tasked with creating an article and a related creative project, such as a graphic, video, or social media post. This challenge demonstrates your ability to craft compelling content under pressure, so bring your best ideas and execution.

By following these tips and preparing thoroughly, you can set yourself apart as a strong candidate for the GMSD Internship Program and take your first step toward a future in marketing and communications. Good luck!
