Report Your Concerns Using Anonymous Alerts
Safe Reporting
Germantown Municipal School District offers Anonymous Alerts®, a secure platform designed for students to report safety concerns, bullying, or other critical issues within our schools. This tool ensures your voice is heard while allowing you to choose anonymity or identify yourself.
The system allows for 1-way or 2-way anonymous encrypted communications between submitters (students, parents or community members) and district administration and/or school staff.
Emergency Preparedness
Emergency preparedness is a cornerstone of GMSD’s safety approach. Staff complete annual training in:
- Active Shooter Response: Led by Germantown Police SWAT, covering survival tactics, evacuation, and coordination with law enforcement.
- Trauma First Aid: Includes applying tourniquets, with each classroom equipped with SWAT-T kits.
- CPR/AED Certification: Hands-on training provided through a partnership with Methodist Healthcare, ensuring staff can respond to cardiac emergencies.
Live drills and simulations, conducted with Germantown Police and Fire Departments, reinforce training and enhance readiness, ensuring a safer environment for all.
Dedicated School Resource Officers
Thanks to a partnership with the Germantown Police Department, every school in our district has a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO), with two SROs stationed at Houston High School. Additionally, our full-time District School Safety Liaison ensures consistent support and oversight of district-wide safety initiatives.
More than just law enforcement, these officers are a beloved part of our school culture, building strong relationships with students, staff, and families while maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
Student Wellness Advisory Team (SWAT)
GMSD’s Student Wellness Advisory Team (SWAT) fosters open dialogue about school safety and wellness. This student-led group meets monthly at middle and high schools to discuss challenges facing today’s youth. Adult participants, including members of the GMSD Safety Team, facilitate these discussions and gather insights to improve safety initiatives and develop impactful campaigns.
A Culture of School Safety
The Closed, Locked, and Stay Safe (C.L.A.S.S.) campaign encourages students and staff to maintain locked doors for enhanced safety. Routine checks, accountability logs, and staff rewards reinforce adherence to this protocol.
By prioritizing prevention, preparedness, and innovation, GMSD is committed to providing the safest environment for its students and staff. For more details on safety programs or resources, contact GMSD Student Services.
Raptor Visitor Management System
Every GMSD campus utilizes the Raptor Visitor Management System, paired with AI-enabled cameras, to ensure secure access. Visitors must:
- Present a valid photo ID for scanning.
- Undergo a quick background check via the Raptor system.
- Wear a printed visitor badge at all times.
The Raptor system also supports emergency management, including parent-student reunifications, and enables real-time alerts to first responders during emergencies.
Advanced Security Technology
- Comprehensive Surveillance Network: Over 580 security cameras and license plate readers monitor all campuses, ensuring real-time coverage and timely alerts to school administrators and SROs.
- 3M Security Film: Delays forced entry by up to six minutes, giving first responders critical extra time during emergencies.
