The Little Pod Makes a Big Connection With GMSD’s Tiniest Future Students

This fall, Dogwood Elementary School is launching The Little Pod, a new community outreach program inviting babies, toddlers and their families who live in Germantown to visit Dogwood for story time, music, crafts and a chance to begin making connections with their neighborhood public schools.  Farmington Elementary will be launching something similar, later this year–The Little Nest.

“We want families to feel welcome at Dogwood before their children are even old enough to start school,” Principal Jessica Woody said. “It’s a chance for them to meet our teachers, interact with our students and begin to see what makes our school community special.”

And GMSD students from across the district are already helping roll out the welcome mat.

Students in the Exceptional Student Education class at Houston High School recently offered their services to help prepare Little Pod swag bags for participating children. The students are helping assemble special tote bags filled with a few Dogwood surprises for the district’s littlest future Mustangs.

The partnership adds another layer to the program, connecting some of GMSD’s youngest future students with students nearing the other end of their journey.

The first Little Pod gathering is planned for early October, with space limited to 20 children.
