A Night of Champions–Germantown Board of Education March 2026 Recognitions

On Tuesday, March 24, the Germantown Board of Education took time to recognize an outstanding group of students, coaches, and staff whose achievements span academics, athletics, and national competition.

The evening began with a well-deserved recognition of Amy Bagwell, named GMSD’s Supervisor of the Year. As the district’s Student Information Systems Supervisor, Amy ensures that schedules, grades, attendance, and transcripts run seamlessly for students and families. Her leadership during a major system transition this year has had a meaningful impact across the district.

Next, Houston High School senior Jonah Little was recognized for capturing the TSSAA State Wrestling Championship in the 165-pound weight class. His performance over a demanding two-day tournament showcased strength, discipline, and focus at the highest level of competition.

In the pool, Houston High School swimmers delivered a standout season, earning multiple state titles. Eva Rottink claimed championships in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while Roos Rottink earned titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Alongside teammates Taylor Cole and Sam Riggen, they also secured a state championship in the 200 medley relay.

From the pool to the national stage, the Houston High School Junior Varsity Cheerleading Squad was recognized for earning both National and World Champion titles at the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando. Their performance reflected the precision, strength, and teamwork required to compete at an elite level. The team is led by Coach Chris Crabtree and Coach Ryan Jackson, with support from Junior Varsity Sponsor Michele Causey, Varsity Sponsor Amanda Simpson, and Booster President Kristin Funston.

This championship team includes Samhita Abhyankar, Hannah Albaugh, Journee Anderson, Lily Blackwell, Caroline Boler, Sophie Bragorgos, Adalynn Carpenter, London Collier, Kobie Grubb, Hayleigh Harkness, Ava Holt, Dylan Hudson, Addison Huffman, Colbie James, Piper Jensen, Kayla Lindsey, Emma Little, Addison Mitchell, Neya McMurray, Amanda Nouranian, N’ryah O’Neal, Genevieve Parker, Emma Pillai, Makayla Rainey, Julia Rich, Aubrey Rotenberry, Olivia Schneider, Aaliyah Stevenson, Cruz Winsett, and Tamia Wright.

The celebration continued with the Houston Middle School Cheerleading Squad, who were also recognized as National Champions. Led by Coach Chris Crabtree and Sponsor Hillary Higginbotham, these student-athletes are building a strong foundation for the future of the program.


The sixth grade team includes Abigail Rotenberry, Annabelle Spegal, Avery May, Caroline Gilbert, Emerson Middlebrook, Harper Cardot, Harper Stratton, Hope Parks, Leigha Jackson, Libby Fagala, Madeline Yoakum, Mary Carver James, Mary Gayle Gardner, Sevyn Hendricks, Sienna Armenise, and Sylvie Rasmussen. The seventh grade team includes Addie Scoggin, Carys Flee, Hannah Carter, Jane Garner, Josie McCrary, Kelcie Lagree, Livie Grubb, Meda Funston, Paisley Fruitt, and Zora Berretta. The eighth grade team includes Arington Nischwitz, Caroline Arnold, Claire Bruce, Emma Kate Nelson, Hannah Lofton, Hayden Anderson, Lily Beedles, Madelynn Poole, Marilyn Zeller, Mary Bingham, McKenzie Edwards, and Zoe McNutt.
