GMSD Honors Our School Resource Officers

The SROs at HHS with a group of students.

National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day gives us the opportunity to recognize a group of professionals who are woven into the daily life of our schools. In Germantown Municipal School District, our school resource officers are far more than a security presence. They are mentors, problem-solvers, relationship builders and trusted adults who know our students by name and show up for them every single day.

SROs hold a unique role that blends safety, education and counseling. They are active-duty Germantown police officers with specialized training in youth-focused practices, which allows them to support students in ways that extend well beyond traditional law enforcement. You will find them in classrooms teaching safety lessons, in hallways greeting students, at ballgames and performances, and quietly helping when a student needs guidance or a calm voice. Their visibility helps build trust, and that trust strengthens our entire school culture.

Our officers are fully integrated into each school community, partnering with administrators and staff to create safe, welcoming environments where students can focus on learning. They are often the first to arrive and the last to leave at events, and they consistently go above and beyond in ways that families may not always see but our schools feel every day.

We are grateful for the leadership of Lt. Rob Jones, who oversees the district’s SRO program and serves on the district safety team, and for the dedicated officers who serve our schools:

  • Officer Mike Maggipinto – Forest Hill Elementary
  • Officer Brad Bean – Riverdale
  • Officer Eric Burrage – Houston Middle School
  • Officer Teddy Broadnax – Dogwood Elementary
  • Officer Marcelo Mango – Farmington Elementary
  • Officer Orland Mack – Houston High School
  • Officer Shayla Stewart – Houston High School

Each of these officers plays a vital role in supporting students, staff and families while helping maintain the safe, positive learning environments our community expects. Their work reflects a strong partnership between GMSD and the City of Germantown, and it is a partnership that benefits every school, every day.

On this National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, we thank our SROs for their service, their care for our students and their commitment to our schools. They are an essential part of the Mustang family.
