GMSD Hosts First-Ever Classified Career Fair to Strengthen Support Roles Across the District

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming at the GMSD District Office on Monday afternoon as job-seekers arrived eager to explore new opportunities within the district. GMSD held its inaugural Classified Career Fair on November 17, opening its doors from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. to candidates interested in playing a vital role in supporting students and schools each day.

Created to meet a growing need, the event placed a strong focus on recruiting paraprofessionals for special education. “This felt like the right moment to try something targeted,” said HR Supervisor Michael Ruiz. “We’ve struggled the last few years to find paraprofessionals for special education, so we wanted a career fair designed specifically for those high-need positions.” His insight underscored the district’s commitment to strengthening student support services where they are needed most.

While SPED Assistant roles stood at the center of the fair, the event also highlighted a broader range of classified openings. To expand outreach and connect applicants with more pathways into the district, GMSD partnered with Kelly Services and SKB and invited additional contracted service providers. Their participation helped ensure that candidates could explore multiple avenues for joining the GMSD team.

The turnout reflected strong community interest, with steady engagement throughout the afternoon. Organizers were encouraged by the number of qualified attendees eager to make a difference in Germantown schools.

District leaders hope the success of this first event will pave the way for future career fairs tailored to the evolving needs of students and staff.
