GMSD Miler Helped Kick Off Elementary Cross Country Season

Elementary runners from across Germantown Municipal School District kicked off their cross country season with an annual tradition, the GMSD Miler.

Students from Dogwood Elementary, Farmington Elementary, Forest Hill Elementary and Riverdale K-8 joined other area runners at Johnson Road Park for the one-mile race. Unlike the larger cross country meets held at Shelby Farms, the GMSD Miler utilizes the park’s paved fitness path and greenway, creating a smaller and more approachable environment for runners beginning a new season.

The race is especially helpful for students who are new to cross country, giving them a chance to experience competition before heading into larger meets. With several Germantown-area schools participating, runners also get the opportunity to compete alongside familiar faces and friends.

This year’s event featured six teams, with 101 finishers in the girls race and 127 in the boys race. St. Louis took first in the girls competition, followed by Dogwood in second and Forest Hill in third. On the boys side, Dogwood earned the top spot, followed by Forest Hill in second and St. Louis in third.

And, in true GMSD Miler tradition, every runner had something waiting at the finish line: a well-earned popsicle to celebrate the start of another cross country season!
