GMSD Welcomes Dr. Lara Charbonnet as Instructional Supervisor for Humanities and CTE
June 2025 - Dr. Lara Charbonnet joins GMSD as the new Instructional Supervisor for high school humanities and for middle and high school CTE, bringing nearly 20 years of experience in teaching, leadership, and curriculum development.
Germantown Municipal School District is pleased to welcome Dr. Lara Charbonnet as our new Instructional Supervisor, overseeing high school English, social studies, world languages, along with middle and high school Career and Technical Education (CTE).
Dr. Charbonnet brings nearly two decades of experience in education, spanning classroom teaching, school-level administration, and district-level instructional leadership. A former high school English teacher and department chair, she has also served in a range of roles including Dean of Instruction, Assistant Director, and K-12 Curriculum Supervisor. Most recently, she led instructional rounds and scope-and-sequence work at University High School while also coordinating schoolwide testing and academic scheduling.
She’s no stranger to supporting educators across Tennessee either—Dr. Charbonnet was a core coach for the Tennessee Department of Education, training teachers statewide on curriculum and assessment shifts. She’s also served as a Tennessee State Teacher Fellow with the Hope Street Group, working with policymakers to elevate educator voice in instructional decisions.
Missy Abel, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment, shares her enthusiasm: “Dr. Charbonnet brings a wealth of experience as both a proven educator and exceptional leader. Her ability to balance big-picture vision while maintaining attention to detail will be a tremendous asset as she supports our high school humanities programs and oversees our Career and Technical Education programming and opportunities. She leads with a relational mindset and a clear focus on continuous growth for both students and staff.”
In her new role at GMSD, Dr. Charbonnet will support the continued growth of Houston High School and the district’s high-performing humanities programs, while also diving into the dynamic world of CTE for both middle and high school. While this will be her first time focusing on career and technical education specifically, she brings broad-based high school leadership experience that touches all content areas.
“I’m so excited to get to know the GMSD community—students, families, teachers, and administrators,” said Dr. Charbonnet. “I’ve long admired the work happening here, and I look forward to contributing to the incredible momentum already in place.”
She describes her leadership style as both data-driven and people-centered. “I love meeting new people and connecting with fellow educators,” she added. “This is the best profession, and I’m thrilled to support our teachers as they help students thrive.”
Outside of work, Dr. Charbonnet enjoys traveling with her husband, a fellow high school educator, and their three children. The family loves beach trips and making memories together.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Charbonnet to the GMSD family. She officially begins her new role on July 1.
