September Employee Celebration Tour Rolls Across GMSD

A winner poses with her coworkers and smiles for the picture holding up her certificate.

A cart full of prizes, a few surprise classroom interruptions and plenty of cheering can only mean one thing: The GMSD Employee Celebration Tour is back on the road.

Each month, members of the district team travel across GMSD to surprise employees selected for a variety of recognitions. With a little help from local community partners, the Celebration Tour turns those recognitions into moments employees can enjoy right in the middle of their workday.

September’s tour brought plenty of reasons to celebrate:

  • Lara Charbonnet, District Office Staff Spotlight received a gift certificate from Eggs Up Grill.
  • Dorion Fears, Classified Staff Member of the Month, got a particularly sweet surprise with a dozen donuts from Duck Donuts.
  • Gracie Sparks, Birthday Month Winner, celebrated with a birthday Bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
  • Amari Lipscomb, Nacho Average Blue Chip Teacher, took home dinner from Oh Grate Mexican.
  • Leigh Collins, Dinner to Go Winner, received dinner from East of Chicago Pizza.
  • Melissa Deskin and Ruth Thompson, Gratitude Gram Winners, each received a gift certificate from BIGGBY Coffee on South Germantown Parkway.
  • Beth Handy, Perfect Attendance Winner, received a YETI gift card from Alia Wealth Partners.

Some recognitions celebrate a specific accomplishment. Others reward employees for showing up, supporting their coworkers or simply being the kind of person someone else took the time to recognize. Together, they give GMSD another way to shine a spotlight on the people behind the work happening every day across the district.

Rather than announcing winners in an email, the Celebration Tour brings the party directly to them. Coworkers gather, students cheer and, occasionally, a perfectly normal school day gets interrupted by a visit from our human resources department.
