Vote on GMSD’s September Fine Arts Student of the Month

GMSD is excited to announce the September nominations for Fine Arts Student of the Month, presented by Joy Williams, Affiliate Broker Main Street Realtors. They must also demonstrate strong academic standing, maintain a good attendance record, and have a positive outlook toward their education and their community. Hear directly from their teachers about what makes them a dedicated student, a creative thinker, and a strong role model. Receiving a nomination is an honor in itself!

Here are the September Music High School Nominees:

Will Bowman - Senior, Orchestra

“A highly gifted student who excels at everything he pursues, Will thrives under pressure and embraces new challenges. He currently serves as Principal Bass in All West and All State, plays bass with the Germantown Symphony Orchestra, performs with the Jazz Band, and plays in the pit orchestra for high school musicals. Additionally, he is a talented pianist and is teaching himself the trumpet during his free time. ” - Stephen Short, Director of Orchestras 

Toby Gescheit - Senior, Theatre

“Toby is an excellent musical theatre artist who excels in musicianship, acting, and in choreography. Last year for the spring musical, she served as co-choreographer and has assisted some of our elementary and middle schools directors in choreography as well. She is an excellent leader, and is directing one of the one-act plays for our fall festival. She also lends her talents to area stages, playing Hunyak in New Day Theatre's summer production of Chicago, and leading. Her performance as the Moon in The Addams family was the epitome of grace and beauty. Toby is always mentoring younger students and assisting students who are less secure in their abilities to dance and sing. ” - Kell Christie, HHS Mustang Theatre Director

Sarah Pennington - Senior, Band
“Sarah demonstrates an unparalleled dedication to improvement and the grit required to be truly exceptional, all while maintaining a positive growth mindset. In addition to preparing for marching band solos and collegiate auditions, she has excelled as Band President, motivating her peers to achieve great things. Sarah's success extends across all disciplines, driven by her consistent positivity and work ethic. Her accomplishments include WTSBOA All West honors (2023–2026), the University of Memphis Honor Band (2024-2025), and the Memphis Youth Symphony Program Wind Ensemble (2026).” - Kevin Carpenter, Director of Bands

Eliana Crenshaw - Senior, Choir

“Eliana possesses a natural musicality matched only by her intentional dedication to growth. A standout since her freshman year, she is a deeply disciplined musician who consistently refines her craft. Her impressive tenure in our top ensembles includes membership in Concert Choir and Fifth Measure since her sophomore year, earning prestigious spots in both All-West and All-State Honor Choirs. Notably, she served as a soloist with Fifth Measure as a sophomore and contributed to their second-place finish at SingStrong in New York City. Beyond her performance, Eliana is a heart-led leader who proactively assists peers, leads sectionals, and supports choir operations. Her passion for the arts and proactive pursuit of feedback make me incredibly proud as she prepares to pursue music in college. Her accolades include All-Southwest Honor Choir (2022–2025) and All-State Honor Choir 4th Chair (2026).” - Kinsey Healy, Director of Choirs
