The City of Germantown partners with schools for MOVERS program to foster leadership in youth

“The Germantown Parks and Recreation Department is excited to once again be taking the lead on the Germantown Movers program,” shares Michelle Forbert in an email to local middle school administrators. Forbert serves the City of Germantown as the Recreation Specialist with the Parks and Rec Department.

The focus of the MOVERS program is to select 24 eighth grade students (eight from Houston Middle, eight from Germantown Middle and eight from Riverdale) and give them a leadership experience that will help them as they prepare for the high school experience.

The City of Germantown along with some school personnel take the chosen students to Camp Hopewell outside of Oxford, Mississippi. There, they engage in team building and leadership activities.

“Choices made during this period of life often have a large impact on their future, so we hope MOVERS will allow them to grow as individuals as they prepare for high school the next year,” says Forbert.

This weekend marked the third time the City and schools have collaborated for the MOVERS program. “Partnerships like these foster leadership at such a pivotal time in Germantown’s burgeoning citizens,” said Houston Middle School Principal Liz Dias.
