Student Emma Karst takes home the Elizabeth Brashears Celebrate Literacy Award for her new book

Every year, the Tennessee Reading Association sponsors the “Elizabeth Brashears Celebrate Literacy Awards Program.” “Celebrate Literacy” is a writing contest in which students in grades preK-12 may submit original books to their local council. Books are judged at the local level, and the winners are submitted to the state competition.

Emma Karst, a fourth grade student at Dogwood Elementary, won the brought home an EBC, Honorable Mention for outstanding, imaginative and expressive writing last week.

Emma wrote a book this year about her family’s popcorn farm and entered it in the TRA Elizabeth Brashears Celebrate Literacy Award Program in March.
