Germantown Municipal Schools announces two hires to the district leadership team

GERMANTOWN, TN—July 28, 2016—Dr. Meredith Park has been named as Director of Academic Advancement. Dr. Park is joining us from DeSoto County Schools, the largest school district in the state of Mississippi. She earned her doctorate from Mississippi State University. Dr. Park brings 17 years of leadership experience serving in the roles of a middle and high school classroom teacher, K-12 instructional coach, Coordinator of Formative Assessment, and most recently, Federal Programs Director and Continuing Education Director for DeSoto County Schools. She also has experience at the community college level, serving as a Director of Federal Workforce Training.

Dr. Park is married to Jeremy Park, who is a member of the LLC of Lipscomb & Pitts Insurance and President of Lipscomb & Pitts Breakfast Club. They have two sons, Cooper and Cayson.
Very excited about joining our family, Dr. Park says, “I am looking forward to building relationships with the students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the community at large. It is important to me to continue with many of the successful traditions and practices that this district has established. I am excited to work alongside Mr. Manuel, the GMSD Board of Education, and the community to continue to build a foundation of excellence for our students”.

Germantown Municipal School District is proud to announce that Sarah Huffman has accepted the position of Director of the Department of Exceptional Children. She is joining us from Bartlett City Schools where she has served as the Supervisor of the Department of Exceptional Children since the district’s formation in 2014. In her 14 years of instructional experience, Huffman has taught preschool and elementary students in both general and special education settings, and held several leadership positions—including work as an Instructional Supervisor for the Department of Exceptional Children with Shelby County Schools.

Her wealth of knowledge and experience could not be a better fit for the Germantown Municipal School District. On increasing the opportunities of our student population, she shares, “I am excited to learn and grow with students, families, staff and the community. My goal in leading the staff of Germantown Municipal Schools is to collaborate with all stakeholders in improving outcomes for all students regardless of disability”.

With the importance of work begun in the Department of Exceptional Students in previous years, our staff and administration look forward to her guidance and vision as we continue down the path.
