At Farmington, a fourth grade class supports “John T” with their attention to Step Up For Down Syndrome

Mrs. Caryn Daugherty’s fourth grade class are participating in Step Up For Down Syndrome to support John T, a young adult who has been volunteering regularly in the classroom. “John T adds so much to our class,” says Daugherty who was inspired by the recent Germantown Community Conversation.

Giving meaningful work with a paycheck attached is not something the students in her classroom could do, but giving John T a chance to practice skills as a teacher was. He passes out papers and assists lining up the class for transitions. “He is a great help around the room,” Daugherty says.
