Dogwood Elementary, at the top tier of philanthropy, continues to set its sights on helping the community

On Saturday, October 3rd, Dogwood Elementary faculty and families braved the cold and wind to participate in the JDRF One Walk at Shelby Farms. The One Walk is a Type One diabetes awareness fundraiser. The DES walk team raised over $1200 to support research for a cure. This weekend they prepare students to raise money, support, and awareness for Step Up For Down Syndrome.

“Next month,” explains PTA President Amy Eoff, “students will participate in Loot for Troops.” After Halloween trick-or-treating, the students will bring in surplus candy and package it up to send over to men and women serving in the armed forces. “We want them to participate in charities in a way that it means something to them. They have to give up their own candy to make this campaign a success, and that’s a little different than having a parent write a check,” continues Eoff.
