Annual Senior Miss Pageant crowns its new victor

The Houston High School Chapter of DECA recently hosted the twenty-fourth annual Senior Miss Scholarship Pageant where fifteen girls took to the stage to vie for the coveted title.

The event consisted of four individual components: interview, evening gown, talent and scholastic merit. The interview portion consisted of a five-minute session during which each girl was dressed to represent her specific club or team. The judges asked a series of questions mainly about what the future goals of the girl are. After the interviews, the girls gathered in the choir room to get ready for the show.

Once the show began, talents varied from singing to dancing to a demonstration of martial arts. The ladies of Houston used the talent portion to show their personalities because this was more than a pageant--it was a completion to win scholarship money for college.

As the show went on and songs were sung, the overall winner of the night was Nathalie Prior who played the piano for her talent and blew away the judges in her evening gown. Additional winners included: Community Service, Mary Margaret Grant; Talent, Caroline Draffin; Interview, Julia Harris; Crowd Favorite, Kennedie Toney; Scholastic Merit, Allison Boden; 3rd Runner up, Julia Harris; 2nd Runner up, Mary Margaret Grant; and 1st Runner up, Heather Foreman.

Over 325 students, family members and Houston High faculty attended this great event, raising over $2,000.00 in the process. In addition to $900.00 in scholarship funds that were distributed to deserving girls, Houston High DECA was able to contribute $1,150.00 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on behalf of Allie Allen, a Houston High junior that continues her brave fight against cancer.
Thanks to everyone that made this night possible!
