STEM Camp available to future HMS Mustangs

Houston Middle School is excited to be hosting the GMSD STEM Stangs Summer Camp for middle school students. This camp is designed for middle school students currently in grades 5-8 who an interest in engineering.

HMS STEM teachers and Houston High student volunteers will put on this exciting week long camp. Wired to Recycle is happening this summer the week of June 13-17 (8:30-12:00). Over the course of the week, students will participate in interactive STEM-based activities from robots to botany and will venture on a local field trip to conclude the week. Each morning students will meet dynamic speakers form the local community who will share what they do each day in their STEM related job. Then they will program robots to run a recycling center, design 3D models of upcycled creations using a 3D printer, calculate a school garbage audit to see the amount of waste schools are sending to local landfills, and even build a bucket garden. This week will be wrapped up by visiting the Memphis Botanic Gardens to study pond ecology and water quality. The $175 fee covers activities, a T-shirt, the field trip, and contributes to funding Houston Middle’s STEM classes. We encourage students to submit their applications before the April 15 deadline. At this camp, we hope to inspire and work with Germantown’s future engineers!
