GMSD's very artful child: Khushi Patel

At Farmington Elementary School there is a fourth grader who has a real heart and talent for art. Khushi Patel continues to produce winning poster design after winning poster design. Most of Patel’s work is done in colored pencil, but it's the “composition that impresses the judges,” says her FES art teacher Rebekah Laurenzi.

When we checked in with Patel earlier this year she told us that her biggest goal this year was to take the first prize in the Smokey the Bear Poster Contest. Happily, she accepted the first place award for the school. She had, after all, been working on the drawing for at least three months prior. Last year, another one of Laurenzi’s students won the national contest.

What’s next for Patel? “Learning about more art and entering more contests,” she says.
