FHES Coach Michael Stratton starts online fitness series

March 31, 2020--Germantown, Tennessee-- Forest Hill Elementary Coach Michael Stratton has brought gym class to the internet with his Youtube series “P.E. At Home”. Coach Stratton created the series both as a way to bring back a sense of normalcy and to teach kids how to stay fit at home with limited resources and equipment. “We try and teach students at FHES to be resourceful, respectful, and responsible — and this is definitely resourceful!” Stratton responded when asked about his inspiration for the project. “It’s all about seeing what you can do with the things you already have at home and modifying them to suit your needs.”

So far Stratton has released three videos with fitness challenges to do at home, including a spin on a game FHES students played in P.E. this year but using the board game Connect Four. Stratton says he is aiming for 2 videos per week, with the fitness challenges ranging from 5 minutes to 30 minutes long. When asked about what he wanted the kids to take away from this experience, he answered: “The most important thing I want the students to take away is to keep your body active and your mind sharp, even if you’re stuck in the house.”
