Germantown Kiwanis Club donation provides AED machine for GMSD

Germantown Municipal School District recently added two additional automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to Riverdale Elementary School for potential emergencies, thanks to a monetary donation from the Kiwanis Club of Germantown.

“Their funds have provided AED units that in the future might well save the lives of some of our students or staff,” said Jason Manuel, GMSD superintendent.

An automated external defibrillator is a small portable device that checks a person's heart rhythm, decides if the rhythm is "off," and gives the heart an electric shock that restarts the correct, natural rhythm. The device is used whenever a person suffers from sudden cardiac arrest. With minimal training, teachers, principals, coaches, and others can easily operate one of these devices.

The AEDs will be located on the second floor and in the gymnasium of the newly-built Riverdale Elementary School. All other GMDS schools also have AEDs.
