Germantown, Tennessee, June 10, 2021--GMSD is embarking on opening its very first online school. We recognize that families want educational choices that meet their individual needs. We are excited to announce our new school, GOAL, Germantown Online Academy of Learning for Grades 6-12, which will launch in August.

GOAL allows your student to continue to learn at home–online. Students are taught by Tennessee-certified teachers, allowing you as a parent/guardian to take on a mentor role and continue to support your child in his or her learning.

Credentialed, Tennessee-certified teachers in each course shall provide student and teacher-initiated direct instruction; serve as the teacher of record, respond to student-initiated chat, email, and telephone calls; grade assignments; moderate discussion boards; and assign final grades.

When students need a quick answer, GOAL students will have access to a third-party LiveTutor program provided through Pearson Connexus. Students can connect with a live online teacher for help with specific problems or further explanation of a concept. Tutors are available in English/reading/language arts, math, science, and social studies, but do not help with tests or quizzes. LiveTutor support is available 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST Monday–Thursday, with extended hours for math until 10:00 PM CST. Availability on Fridays for all subject areas is 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM CST.

We are partnering with Pearson Connexus to provide our GOAL students with:
• Award-winning and proven curriculum designed for college and career readiness and student success
• NCAA-approved courses for high school athletes
• Highly qualified state-certified teachers trained in online instruction
• Current education technology tools
• FAMILY 411 resource center to support families and ensure virtual school success

Additionally, GOAL will have a small GMSD staff, including its own Principal. GOAL students will have the opportunity to participate in social networking events and extra-curricular activities such as athletics and (non-co-curricular) fine arts.

Completing this form will officially register you for Germantown Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), and serves as a commitment for enrollment during the 21-22 school year. Once you have been accepted, parents/guardians will receive an email to complete the registration process.
Because space will be limited in its pilot year—we are asking families to begin the registration process as soon as possible to ensure your seat.
